amn, it's been two weeks since I last posted, I guess this quarantine lazy life has been getting to me. I have gotten the chance to focus on some pet projects though and re-adjusting my keywords for this site was one of them. So. I figured I could take some time and put together a small map if you will. For those of us trying to figure out search engine algorithms and crack the code on ranking - this one is for you.

From small business to personal websites there is something here that can help you succeed and get more traction/sales on your website.

Now let's get you #ranked

Understanding the basics:

Let's start out with some basics. There are two big words that you're going to need to know before getting started.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization - This is the practice of using keywords and other techniques to get your site ranked on search engines. Keywords - These are usually a set of words or phrases targeted to your audience that relate to your company or personal brand.

Now that it's not gibberish - let's jump into some fun content!

I have worked with companies that don't value keywords - or some companies that think they know everything about Google and search ranking and continue to play the game wrong. It's important to match keywords naturally to your copy. In order to do this, we need to think like our audience and use the correct words. By doing this we can help our customers and not blindly targeting or guessing what our audience wants.

That means that when we are choosing keywords for the website try to stick to a primary and secondary for EACH page. Using these same words in our social media and marketing efforts means that the keywords are doing double duty for us. And that's great!

Google makes up to 90% of web searches, 20x ahead of Bing and Yahoo

The truth is that #SEO is constantly changing, almost on a weekly basis and google doesn't always make the new updates or algorithm changes available. That's why using up to date tools is the best approach when selecting keywords. Here are two of my favorite:, and UberSuggest.

When creating our keywords try to find a balance between search volume, low competition and relevant to the business. It's all pretty straight forward. You will want to try and strike a balance between search volume and competition. If no one is searching for it then don't even try. On the other hand, if it's so packed with traffic then the company is going to get lost in the noise. And lastly, make sure that it's relevant to your business - you would think that's a no brainer though. 😀

Don't be caught keyword stuffing or misuse, algorithms will catch and discipline your website ranking.

#Hashtag it!

It's a no-brainer and everyone is already doing it. Hashtagging is king to ranking and sharing content. Studies show that content containing hashtags boost sharing by 55%. Backlinks are vital to the ranking algorithm as well. Google recognizes and respects when your site is linked to other relevant and credible sites. Giving you a higher ranking as a "gift" :)

That means using the correct hashtags is crucial. Brand experts say that branded content should at least have 15-30 hashtags to be effective; ranging in scope of reach. is a gift sent from god. It allows you to see effective hashtags and how they are affecting the industry. Using the correct hashtags helps you connect with the right audience and increase engagement. A tip: I have my hashtags saved in a notes folder that I copy and paste onto my social media posts. This saves me time and keeps my hashtags consistent.

Let's Optimize!

Hopefully, this helps you in understanding more about SEO and how it can help you and your company. It's time to start using these tools and the wonderful world of the internet to your company's advantage. So set that shit up and watch Google do the work for you!
